Clouds, by Zach Sobiech

The world is a little dimmer today. The bright soul that was Zach Sobiech passed away yesterday, May 20th. He turned 18 on May 3rd. Zach, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma when he was in 8th grade, is 2 days older than my oldest son.

Review: Wreck It Ralph

For family fun last Saturday night, we decided to watch the animated Disney movie Wreck It Ralph. We all love video games, and the premise – of a downtrodden villain growing weary of doing villainous things, and wanting more – seemed appealing.

My kids mostly play their video games online on their PC, or on their consoles, or on their smart phones or ipods.  When I was a kid, if we wanted to play — we grabbed our quarters and cold hard cash, met up with friends and headed to the local arcade. To spend hours dropping quarters into machines.

But, what really goes on INSIDE those arcade video games?

And thus begins the story, of an 8-bit villain, wanting to be a hero…

Love PSY’s “Gangnam Style“? Love Minecraft? Captain Sparklez puts it all together for you, with some epic animation…

My kids told me about this video when I asked what they would like for their morning wake-up song. I said, “But, it only has 2 million views!”. They said, “Yeah, Mom, it’s new – like, it’s been up for like, 2 days.”

Oooooohhhh, sexy piggies…

What’s Hot: Revenge – Creepers Tryin’ to Steal All Our Stuff (Minecraft parody of DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love)

One more brilliant Minecraft parody, to add to your collection – taken from Usher’s hit DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love.  Thank you, Captain Sparklez.

P.S. I use all the Minecraft parodies and songs to wake up my kids in the morning.  They make a great get-up-and-go alarm clock!  I play them on my Droid, and just leave the phone in their room  until they all get out of bed. #evilmom #mwahaha

The new Shaman King 2012: Zero Story

Note: Please check the bottom of this post for updates and links to English translations of omakes!

Hiroyuki Takei’s manga series Shaman King is being revived, starting with the November 10 Jump X release of an all new 44-page manga one shot about Yoh Asakura, called Zero Story.

While we’re waiting for the English translation of Zero Story, be sure to check out this new video on Anime News Network – it’s a song called “Osorezan Revoir”, sung by Mugumi Hayashibara (voice actress for Anna), and featuring an original illustration of Anna by Hiroyuki Takei.  And you MUST read the touching backstory on how this video came to be.

According to Anime News Network:

“The “Osōrezan Revoir” video was created to celebrate the revival of the Shaman King manga with a new 44-page story in Jump X [Kai]’s fifth volume on November 10. The manga short will depict a previously untold “zero story” about the main character Yō Asakura. According to the magazine, the manga short will be the first part in a series of short manga stories and lead up to a “Big Project” next spring.”

This one shot will, according to Shaman King Nation, tell the story of “Yoh Asakura leaving his hometown of Izumo and heading to Tokyo for the first time, as well as helping the spirit of a dead child pass on”.

What’s Hot: Form This Way (Minecraft parody of Born This Way)

One of the great things about Minecraft is the way it spawns creativity, mashups and parodies. We all have that creative streak inside of us, and Minecraft encourages us to imagine, create, build, program, play, draw, write, and in some cases, sing.

Form This Way is an amazing parody of Lady Gaga’s hit Born This Way.  The YouTube video above was created by fans of Minecraft: “the Yogscast organised and paid for a remixed version of Martyn’s original song to be made without copyrighted karaoke background music”.

Be sure to check out the comments on YouTube – they’re hilarious:

God: I created the earth.

Notch:I created minecraft.

God: So what?

Notch: Mine’s bigger.

P.S. This is a great song to wake up to in the morning. Gets the kids out of bed and moooving.

What’s Hot: Hatsune Miku

My daughter’s latest favorite diva is Hatsune Miku.  Miku is 16 years old, 5’2” with cyan blue ponytails that fall almost to her ankles.  She has a vocal range like no other – human, that is.  She is a Vocaloid – the child of technology, music, and anime.

Hatsune Miku performs on stage as a projection, on a massive mostly-transparent screen surrounded by towers, under a rock star light rack.  Rimmed by her band of live musicians, The 39s, she sings in the midst of a sea of glow sticks moving in rhythm.  With expressive dance moves and fun, catchy tunes, her name reads “first sound from the future”.

She is a musician. She is entertainment. She is a confluence. She is illustrated by KEI, animated by SEGA, created by Crypton Future Media, and powered by Yamaha’s technology, with a voice sampled from Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita, singing a song written by Ryo Supercell), that is published by Sony Entertainment.
